On the 20th of February, 2010, Navi Mumbai’s first IB World School, Dr. Pillai Global Academy, New Panvel, celebrated their 1st Annual Day with great splendor and fanfare. The programme commenced with a Bharatanatyam recital (Ganeshavandan) by Ms. Neetu Venugopal, an IBDP student. This was followed by the formal function, in which Mr. Jeffrey Goldberg, Principal, Dr. Pillai Global Academy welcomed the gathering. Dr. Lata Krishnan, Associate Director and IBDP Coordinator, then presented the Annual Report of Dr. Pillai Global Academy. A beautiful audio-visual segment showcased the major achievements and happenings of the school throughout an eventful first year of its life with the Navi Mumbai community.

The prize distribution for the young talents of the school was conducted by Ms. Seeta Desai, Director, and Ms. Bandana Basu, Associate Director and IBDP Coordinator. Ms. Seeta Desai also introduced the book ‘EduNation’, by the CEO of Mahatma Education Society, Dr. K. M. Vasudevan Pillai, about his insights into education in India and all over the world. The formal function was concluded with a Vote of Thanks by Ms. Beena K Thambi, CAS Coordinator.

The tiny tots then toddled onto stage for a multicultural action song, directed by early-years teachers Ms. Celin Xavier and Ms. Sharmila Pereira, with all of them dressed in a costume representing a world culture. The miniature Roman senators, American cowboys and Eskimos won everybody’s hearts.

The next performance was an enactment of Shakespeare’s “The Merchant of Venice” by the senior students, who amazed the audience with their enthusiastic and talented portrayal of the characters. This play was directed by Ms. Shameem Mulla and Ms. Renjini Adhikari.

The fashion show which followed the Shakespearean play, was themed on Egypt, and was unique and a colourful treat for the eyes. It was conceived by Ms. Dipti Vij, Annual Day Coordinator.

Dr. Pillai Global Academy’s 1st Annual Day concluded on a high note with the appreciation of parents and all guests who were witness to this occasion.
